In June of 2005, we learned of Darby, a senior Bouvier that was rescued by Senior Canine Rescue in Calgary, Alberta. We decided to adopt her, but because of the heat, it was not possible to fly her to Colorado during the
summer. We couldn't arrange ground transport so we had to wait until the weather was cooler. Well, Jude Fine who heads up Senior Canine Rescue fell in love with Darby and wanted to keep her. Since Darby was doing just great with
Jude, that was certainly the best thing for all concerned. On October 14, Terry Minda who does Bouvier rescue in Florida told me about Annie, a 9 year old gray
brindle Bouvier that needed a new home. Annie's owner loved her dearly, but was having some spinal problems that prevented giving Annie the exercise she needed. With heroic help from Terry and Tom Toft who helps a lot with
Bouvier rescue, we were able to fly Annie to Denver on October 20. She arrived in a #700 dog crate which is the largest crate I have personally seen. We introduced Annie to Ellie, Molly, and Sparky, our other three dogs in a
football field close to home. Neutral territory. No problems at all and when we got Annie home and in the house, everybody seemed to adjust quickly. Annie ignored Apple, an old cat we have and Apple pays no attention to any dog we
have ever had. Annie is a very sweet and calm dog. We feel lucky to have adopted her and will keep her former owner up to date on her adventures. |
