Bouvier Breeders

If you are unfamiliar with Bouviers, please read the followng.

If you are seriously considering adopting a Bouvier des Flandres, please learn as much as you can about the breed. Bouviers are not for eveyone and I highly recommend that you read and study Don't Buy A Bouvier by Pam Green, For a list of books about Bouviers, go to Books about Bouviers.

In case you still have not gotten the point, Bouviers are large, intelligent, stubbon, and shaggy dogs that require:
1. Obedience training. This is an ABSOLUTE necessity. You MUST establish who is master and also ensure that your Bouvier is socialized and a good citizen.
2. Regular grooming to ensure that the coat is free of dirt and mats. This is necessary for good health.

Note that most adoptions will require an interview and an on-site visit. This is for the protection of the dog and to try to ensure that that both the dog and the new owner will be happy with their new arrangement.

Learn as much as you can about the breed by contacting a local Bouvier des Flandres club, attending dog shows where Bouviers are competing, and visiting breeders. Do NOT assume that any particular breeder, whether they are found via word-of-mouth or recommended by a club is offering top quality dogs. There are genetic health problems that afflict Bouviers (such as Hip Dysplasia) that can cause chronic problems throughout the dog's life or even result in premature death. Please visit Dog Health Links to learn more about some of the genetic health problems in dogs. Responsible breeders will offer dogs that have been tested and cleared for these problems and the ancestry will also be free of genetic defects.

I have removed the breeder list becaue I have run across way too many unethical ones recently.

Don't buy a dog from a breeder or a pet store. Rescue one from a shelter or from a rescue organization.
