Haley's Home Page

Cancer!

In early July 2001, we had a growth removed from Haley. We had it biopsied and the results showed it was mast cell cancer. We scheduled an appointment at the Colorado State College of Veterinary Medicine in Ft. Collins, Colorado. That was on the 17th of July. They recommended an operation to remove additional tissue and that occured on the 18th. We took Haley home late afternoon on the 18th and she is doing fine now. It took her about 2 days to recover from the operation and get her appetite back. A picture of the huge incision is below.

Because of the good prognosis, we hope to have Haley in our family for a long time.

We are very thankful to Dr. Sunshine and Dr. Clements at the
AllPets Clinic in Lafayette, CO and to all the wonderful folks at the Colorado State College of Veterinary Medicine.

This is Haley, a Border Collie /Springer Spaniel mix. We obtained Haley from Pet Orphans Fund in Van Nuys, California as a companion for Ursa, our first Bouvier des Flandres. Even though Haley is about half the weight of Magnum, our other Bouvier des Flandres, she is definitely the Alpha dog of the house!
